Markets closed lower, breaking the three-session winning streak, after concerns about the ability for European leaders to reach an agreement to contain the debt crisis and the price of commodities caused shares to slide this afternoon, wiping out early session gains. The Dow closed down 179 points, near session lows, and the S&P 500 closed down 24 points, ahead of tomorrow’s meeting between Greek leaders and the “troika”, as well as a morning with GDP, personal spending, and jobless claims on tap. ...

Markets closed lower today, continuing yesterday’s decline after the Fed announced Operation Twist and gave a pessimistic outlook citing the significant downside risk for the US and global economy. Markets were also under pressure because of concerns of economic slowdown in Europe and China.
