Those of you involved with real-time market data systems may be familiar with the term ‘micro-bursting’; this occurs when multiple market data feeds, from multiple servers, at multiple exchanges, all happen to publish market data quotes at the exact same time… down to the microsecond. When this happens, the one second average update rate might be a manageable number but over a 5-10 microsecond period, subscribers can be overloaded and have to queue up messages. ...
