Every trading day the gong is sounded in Amsterdam to mark the opening (9.00 am) and closing (17.30 pm) of the trading session.
Today the Amsterdam exchange, the oldest exchange in the world, celebrates the 410th anniversary of worldwide share trading. To mark the occasion, share traders from AFS, Nyenburgh, MijnBroker and Leopark sound the opening gong. The traders, all of whom work on the trading floor at Beursplein 5, are wearing the traditional trading jackets, which are now being worn again.
During the ceremony, the Stichting Vereniging voor de Effectenhandel will launch its new DVD about Amsterdam’s stock exchange. The the stock exchange association is responsible for preserving and promoting the rich exchange heritage of the Netherlands.
