Every trading day the gong is sounded in Amsterdam to mark the opening (9.00 am) and closing (17.30 pm) of the trading session.
The 33rd edition of the Amsterdam Dakar Challenge starts on Saturday 11 February.
The purpose of the marathon race from Dakar through the Sahara is to raise money for charity. Participants are not allowed to use a car that costs more than 500 Euros. The initiator of the Amsterdam Dakar Challenge, Arthur Verheijen, sounds the opening gong. The initiative, which has raised over three million Euros for local projects in Africa, has many enthusiastic supporters.
