Every trading day the gong is sounded in Amsterdam to mark the opening (9.00 am) and closing (17.30 pm) of the trading session.
The Amsterdam City Index, barometer of the economic climate in Amsterdam city centre, reached 116 points this year. The Amsterdam City Index is an initiative of Business Association Amsterdam City and appeared as an appendix in The Parool newspaper.
The index has risen four points compared to last year. The 32 trends that compose the Amsterdam City Index are divided over five themes. Each theme represents one aspect of the economy. All themes together form the index of 116. Guus Bakker, chairman of the Business Association Amsterdam City and creator of the Amsterdam City Index sounds the gong together with Ronald Ockhuysen, deputy director of The Parool newspaper.
