Every trading day the gong is sounded in Amsterdam to mark the opening (9.00 am) and closing (17.30 pm) of the trading session.
Today, Monday 23 January, is the start of the Chinese New Year, which is also known as the Festival of Spring. It is the most important Chinese celebration, and in the past it could last up to15 days. Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Mr. Zhang Jun, opens trading.
Modern celebrations last only a week, and are held on a different date every year, but always between 21 January and 20 February. The Chinese New Year is traditionally celebrated with dragon and lion dances. NYSE Euronext Amsterdam has decided to mark this special day by inviting representatives of the Chinese business community in the Netherlands to take part in the gong ceremony. Participating in this year’s ceremony are the Association of Chinese Investors in the Netherlands (ACIEN), the Netherlands Centre for Trade Promotion, and the Holland Financial Centre (HFC).
