Discovery of an original painting by Rembrandt

On Friday 2 December, an unknown painting by Rembrandt will be presented at the Rembrandt House in Amsterdam. A delegation from the Rembrandt House Museum and Technical University of Delft will perform the opening ceremony.

Professor Joris Dik, senior lecturer at TU Delft, developed a new technique that makes hidden images under the surface paint visible. This technique has helped to identify a previously unknown painting, now attributed to Rembrandt. The small panel entitled Old man with a beard was painted by Rembrandt around 1630, at the end of his Leiden period. The painting has been lent to the Rembrandt House by a private collector.
