"UN Day is a day on which we resolve to do more. More to protect those caught up in armed conflict, to fight climate change and avert nuclear catastrophe; more to expand opportunities for women and girls, and to combat injustice and impunity; more to meet the Millennium Development Goals". Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on UN Day, 24 October 2010
The UN manifesto came into effect on 24 October 1945, and since then this day has been regarded as the beginning of the United Nations. The Netherlands Association for the United Nations is a volunteer organisation, the main purpose of which is to strengthen the objectives of the UN in the Netherlands by disseminating information about the UN and its activities, and by raising awareness of the need for international cooperation.
