Ahead of the Bell: Dow and S&P futures started out positive this morning following the announcement that EU leaders have agreed on a second bailout package for Greece and hopes the crisis will not spread to other countries in the region, including Span and Italy.  However, the market trended down after earnings from Caterpillar disappointed early traders with the Dow futures down 4 points and S&P futures up 2 points.  At the EU summit, leaders negotiated a 109 billion euros from government funds plus about 50 billion euros from private bond ho ...

Ahead of the Bell: Dow futures are trading down 29 points and S&P futures are trading down 5 points. Traders are concerned the Euro zone sovereign debt crisis will spread to other member countries. EU finance ministers have promised to allow cheaper loans with longer maturities and more flexible rescue funding so Greece and other European countries including Spain and Italy can avoid defaulting.  Investors are skeptical as reports indicate several small Spanish banks have failed. The Dow closed down 151 points today on the news that European officials held an emergency meeting to discuss the effects of a possible Greek default and the consumer price index reading from China which sparked investor concern over Chinese inflation. ...

Ahead of the Bell: Dow futures are trading down 116 points and S&P futures are trading down 14 points after data from China showed annual inflation hit a three-year high. China's Premier Wen Jaibao said inflation is the main focus for the government.  Investors are concerned the Chinese central bank will raise interest rates again. European finance ministers are set to meet and discuss today a second round of bail-out for Greece. The main issue is how to get private bond holders to participate in any Greek debt rollover.
