Every trading day the gong is sounded in Amsterdam to mark the opening (9.00 am) and closing (17.30 pm) of the trading session.
On 9 and 10 December, the Jaap Eden Skating Arena, the world's oldest 400-metre artificial ice skating track, will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year. Former world champion speed skater Barabara de Loor sounded the gong to honor the anniversary.
A varied program has been organized to mark the event, including the KPN Corporate Team Pursuit for the businesses of Amsterdam. Jaap Eden IJsbanen will organise the event in cooperation with partner KPN, the main sponsor of the Royal Dutch Skating Federation. Several former and current skating heroes will attend the official opening of the jubilee celebration on Friday 9 December. Barbara de Loor is also member of the board of Jaap Eden IJsbanen.
