On Thursday 21 November the Investment & Pensions Europe Awards (IPE Awards) are awarded for the 13th time.

The UK's Pension Protection Fund was named Best Pension Fund in Europe. The gala dinner was attended by more than 670 pension funds, consultants, asset managers and other senior figures from the European pension fund community. The event was launched in 2001 and has now become the largest gathering of European pension funds. The day after the awards participants visited Beursplein 5 to sound the gong.

‘Get in the Ring’ finalists visit Beursplein 5 before attending the final. Get in the Ring is initiated by the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship to bring the most promising entrepreneurs from around the world in contact with investors.

After selection rounds in 32 countries, with over 1,000 participating start-ups, eight start-ups have been selected to pitch on the 22nd of November for a possible investment of up to €1,000,000 during the international final of Get in the Ring: The Investment Battle.The eight finalists will have to face and convince a jury of four top investors for an investment.

VUmc Research on Childhood Cancer (VONK) sounds the gong in honor of their 25th anniversary.

VONK has contributed to the increase in survival from childhood cancer from 60% to 75% in 2013. ‘To cure more children with less side-effects’, this is the main aim of the VUmc Pediatric Oncology Center. Doctors and researchers are looking for an improved treatment, one that will better suit the individual needs of each child. VONK focuses mainly on those patients who are not responsive to treatment with cytostatic drugs and radiation therapy. The enthusiastic and ambitious VONK staff is determined to contribute to further improvements in current treatments, allowing more children to be cured with fewer late effects.Professor of pediatric oncology and project manager of VONK, Gert-Jan Kaspers, sounds the gong.
