The director of Science Center NEMO, Michiel Buchel, sounds the gong to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Dutch science museum.

Food Banks Netherlands draws attention to the waiting lists and food shortages at the Food Bank.


Every month a new Food Bank opens its doors in a city in the Netherlands. Anno 2013 there are more than 140 Food Banks all around the country and the number of customers continues to grow. The biggest challenge is to acquire more and more healthy food. Companies have become more critical in production processes and less food is wasted. Food banks are faced with the challenge to get hold on a structural supply of food for the current 70.000 clients. Fundraiser Mark Preidel sounds the gong.

Sinterklaas has not forgotten to visit Euronext Amsterdam again this year. Joining him to sound the opening gong at exactly 09.00 is the Sinterklaas Bestaat (Santa Claus exists) foundation.

Unfortunately, there are children who do not share in the joy of the holiday season as over 750,000 families in the Netherlands live below the poverty level. The Sinterklaas Bestaat foundation thinks that every child has the right to enjoy this holiday, and has been working to accomplish this since 2005. The initiative, originally based in Amsterdam, went national in 2007 with the help of the Red Cross Association. Sinterklaas Bestaat is active in an average of ten cities throughout the country. In each city the foundation organises a wonderful party for the children, providing each of them with a sack full of new toys. The objective of Sinterklaas Bestaat is to help more children every year, and it currently surprises approximately 3,000 children between the ages of 0 and 10 years.
