Opening and Closing Bell on Wall Street
On Friday, November 23, executives and guests of Saks Incorporated (NYSE: SKS), will visit the New York Stock Exchange to help kick off the 80th birthday of Babar, the globally-loved children's entertainment icon, in America in the new year. Saks' famed Yeti will be part of the celebration. To highlight this special occasion, Tracy Haffner, SVP, Marketing of Saks, Colin Bohm, Managing Director of Nelvana Enterprises, and Clifford Ross, President of The Clifford Ross Company, which manage the Babar brand in collaboration, will ring the NYSE Closing Bell. Also joining on the podium will be Andrew Kerr, Head of Consumer Products, The Americas and Australasia of Nelvana along with Babar and the Yeti.
Saks Fifth Avenue will feature all-new Babar and Yeti plush toys and books this holiday season. Both Babar and Yeti also will be showcased in the famous holiday windows of the flagship Saks Fifth Avenue location in New York City.
Babar by the Numbers
After nearly 80 years, Babar continues to reign as the King of children's literature. The lovable elephant has appeared in more than 100 books in 17 languages as well as multiple TV series and specials and even a feature-length film. Over 42 Babar titles have been published to date with more than 10.1 million copies sold in the U.S. alone.
Babar at Saks Fifth Avenue
To help celebrate Babar's 80th birthday, throughout November, Saks Fifth Avenue Toy Boutique featuring Babar will take center-stage within the children's department in the flagship New York City location and 21 other Saks locations nationwide. The boutiques will feature a range of exclusive new high-end products that bring the charm of the original Babar books to life. In addition, Babar will be featured in the retailer's famous New York City holiday windows - to include a life-size Babar plush exclusively available at Saks - and a full-page presence in the annual Christmas catalog.
Legend of Saks Yeti
For years, there have been rumors of someone-or something-living on the roof of Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City. The first alleged sighting came in the mid-1950s from a tourist on Fifth Avenue who insisted that she saw a furry, snaggletoothed creature peek over the roof of Saks during the holiday season. That tourist would not be the last to catch sight of Saks Fifth Avenue's winter houseguest. In the past, Saks Fifth Avenue simply brushed aside the claims, issuing "no comment." But as the rumors intensified, the store saw an opportunity to capitalize on the legend of the Yeti. Saks contacted the foremost monster expert in the field, Stefan Bucher, to look into the matter. Mr. Bucher worked day and night for months on end to create a lovable plush version of the Yeti, as well as the illustrated children's story of how the Yeti got to Saks in the first place.

About The Clifford Ross Company
Founded in 1985 by artist/photographer Clifford Ross, The Clifford Ross Company focused on three classic properties during its early years: the works of Edward Gorey, Tom Swift and Babar. After optioning the rights to Babar in 1986 directly from Laurent de Brunhoff and the de Brunhoff family, CRC entered into a working relationship with Nelvana on all aspects of the property. For over 20 years, the companies have worked together producing both television and feature-length movies featuring the Babar characters and developing a worldwide licensing program. Ross recently completed "Harmonium Mountain," an animated, computer-generated landscape video, with an original score by Philip Glass, which was an original selection of the Tribeca Film Festival. He is currently working on the completion of a stained glass wall for the new United States Federal Courthouse in Austin, Texas.
