About Comstock Resources, Inc:
Comstock Resources, Inc. (NYSE:CRK) is an independent energy company based in Frisco, Texas and is engaged in the exploration for and production of crude oil and natural gas primarily in Texas and Louisiana. In recent years the primary driver of the Company's growth has been its successful drilling program in North Louisiana in the prolific Haynesville shale. Given the current weakness in natural gas prices, Comstock plans to focus the majority of its capital budget in 2012 on growing its crude oil production by drilling in the oil window of the Eagle Ford shale formation in South Texas.
Comstock was originally a gold and silver mining company which was formed in 1919. In 1987 Jay Allison, Comstock's current Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, and a group of investors acquired a controlling stake in the Company. Since that time, the Company has grown to total assets of $2.2 billion as of June 30, 2011 through acquisitions of oil and gas properties and successful oil and gas exploration activities. Shares of Comstock were first issued for trading on the New York Stock Exchange in 1996 and in 2011 the Company is celebrating its 15th consecutive year on the Exchange.
