NYSE Amex Options has become the first exchange to file for and receive approval from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to eliminate position limits for options on the SPDR® S&P 500® Exchanged-Traded Fund (“SPY”) on a fourteen-month pilot basis. This pilot program has been launched to meet growing demand by options customers to trade the most active class of options. NYSE Amex Options is the only options exchange that does not charge customers a fee to trade SPY options. ...

Pending regulatory approval, NYSE Arca Options plans to launch mini-options contracts on SPDR® S&P 500® ETF (“SPY”), Apple, Inc. (AAPL), SPDR® Gold Trust (GLD), Google Inc. (GOOG), and Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN). These issues were selected because they are priced greater than $100 and are among the most actively traded issues with average daily volume (“ADV”) of at least 45,000 contracts over the previous three calendar months. ...

Recently, I was part of a delegation to Shanghai and Shenzhen with the Options Industry Council (the educational arm of the Options Clearing Corporation). We were in China talking about the importance of educating investors in the use of listed, exchange traded options.  We were also there to help take the mystery out of derivatives and listed options. ...

For NYSE Amex Options, 2011 was the turning point after several years of hard work. In November 2011, the Exchange hit new market share highs based on both volume and number of transactions, continuing months of growth.
