Fusion-io, the maker of a next generation storage memory platform, began trading Thursday morning on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker “FIO”. The stock priced on Wednesday night at $19.00, 12% above the midpoint of the increased filed range of $16.00 to $18.00, which itself was already a 21% increase from the initial range of $13.00 to $15.00. The company’s stock opened strongly at $25.00, a 32% premium to the IPO price. This came in spite of coming on the heels of 6 day losing streak in the markets. ...

With $6.3B in proceeds and 19 deals, May has been the strongest month for IPOs in 2011YTD. In fact, the month saw higher proceeds raised than any other May since 1999. This momentum was continued from an April that was also strong for IPOs and brings the year-to-date number to 63 deals raising $26.2B in proceeds. In addition to being active, May was unique in that the majority of deals, 58%, were technology IPOs. This means, year-to-date, 40% of IPOs have been tech companies, which is the highest proportion of tech IPOs relative to the total since 2000. ...
