Every trading day the gong is sounded in Amsterdam to mark the opening (9.00 am) and closing (17.30 pm) of the trading session.
Duchenne Heroes sounds the gong to highlight the start of the 2012 season. No fewer than 340 enthusiastic mountain bikers are facing a busy season of training and fund raising.
They are training for the exceptionally strenuous 700km race they will be riding in September in support of children with Duchenne’s disease. From 9 to 15 September they will bicycle from Luxembourg to the Netherlands, pushing their boundaries to help children suffering from this devastating muscular disease.
Duchenne is a life-threatening disease affecting primarily boys. It slowly destroy the body’s muscles, eventually weakening the respiratory and heart muscles. Currently most Duchenne patients do not live beyond the age of 30. Professional mountain biker Nicoletta de Jager sounds the gong to highlight the plight of Duchenne patients.
