Winner World Press Photo of the Year Competition Sounds Gong

Samuel Aranda, winner of the 2011 World Press Photo of the Year award, sounds the gong.

The Spanish photographer accepted the World Press Photo prize during an awards ceremony on Saturday. Aranda won the competition with a photograph of a woman cradling her wounded son in her arms in a mosque that was being used as a temporary field hospital. The World Press Photo 2012 exhibition can be seen in Amsterdam’s Oude Kerk until 17 June, after which it will travel to a hundred cities around the world.
