Many people think solely of our exchanges when they think of NYSE Euronext, but we are also heavily involved in technology. In terms of our environmental sustainability efforts, we focus on both fronts. On Friday, we announced the installation of a significant new solar project in the UK. A new photovoltaic electricity generation system has been installed on the roof of NYSE Euronext’s Basildon data centre. It is currently the largest of its kind in Britain.
Now for the numbers - the system, which has a projected lifespan of 25 years, is expected to generate 450 megawatt hours each year and to save an estimated 255,600 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions per year. The system, which comprises 2,610 linked solar panels, will generate a peak output of as much as 600 kW. Covering just over 4,000 square metres, it will generate up to 20 percent of the daily energy load currently used by the Basildon data centre, a sixteen-acre facility that houses the hardware NYSE Euronext uses to power its London, Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels and Lisbon markets as well as co-located customer facilities.
We are proud of this latest sustainability effort, and expect more announcements on our environmental sustainability initiatives coming soon!
