Corporate Philanthropy Highlights

 "Back where I come from there are men who do nothing all day but good deeds. They are called phila…er, phila…er, yes, er, Good Deed Doers."

That is a quote from one of my all time favorite movies, The Wizard of Oz.  The Wizard fumbles to explain philanthropy to the Tin Man. 

Here at NYSE Euronext we've also been talking Philanthropy  -  we celebrated International Corporate Philanthropy Day with a bell ringing and plenty of discussion on the role of corporations in giving.

In fact ever year, on the the fourth Monday of February, the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy encourages corporations around the world to  "build awareness of corporate-community partnerships and to inspire businesses around the world to engage further." The organization is currently headed by Douglas R. Conant, the Former CEO, Campbell Soup Company, and is comprised of CEOs from Accenture and  AOL, to Cisco and Gap and GE, to McDonald's, Time Warner and Wal-Mart - and even NYSE Euronext chief, Duncan L. Niederauer along with many other innovative leaders.

The CECP is committed to:

• Empowering and challenging CEOs.
• Uniting member companies in a shared sense of purpose.
• Raising the bar for how corporations invest in society and empower their communities.
