Every trading day the gong is sounded in Amsterdam to mark the opening (9.00 am) and closing (17.30 pm) of the trading session.
The winner of the BNG New Literature Prize 2011, Jan van Mersbergen, sounds the opening gong.
Mersbergen wrote the novel Naar de overkant van de nacht. The literary oeuvre prize is awarded to starting authors under the age of 40, writing in the Dutch language. BNG is a bank that helps municipalities, building societies, healthcare facilities, and other social institutions to keep their financing costs low, partly through the issue AAA bonds via NYSE Euronext.
