Every trading day the gong is sounded in Amsterdam to mark the opening (9.00 am) and closing (17.30 pm) of the trading session.
The Netherlands Institute for Sport and Exercise (Nederlands Instituut voor Sport en Bewegen) NISB sounded the gong to highlight the need to protect the health of employees.
NISB has concluded that the Netherlands could save between 380 and 930 million euros a year if more employees participate in sports and get more exercise. Lack of exercise presents a real risk, and results in higher employee absenteeism. The NISB urges employers, the government and political leaders to act now to protect the health of the public. Clémence Ross, director of the NISB, sounds the gong.
